[Collectingchannel.com] That alchemist’s laboratory was the beginning of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, and they’ve been producing porcelain at that site ever since. They chose the area where the gothic fortress of Meissen sits near the Elbe River because it was abandoned and had good access to the huge amounts of wood needed to feed the hungry kilns.
